Project Mercury


Initiated in 1958, completed in 1963, Project Mercury was the United States' first man-in-space program.  The objectives of the program, which made six manned flights from 1961 to 1963, were specific:


To orbit a manned spacecraft around Earth;

To investigate man's ability to function in space;

To Recover both man and spacecraft safely.

This 8" x 10" photo has been signed in bold blue sharpie by Astronaut Alan Shepard.  The image taken as he was being hoisted aboard his recovery helicopter is in great detail and in beautiful condition.

This photo measuring 8"x10" has been neatly and authentically hand signed using black sharpie by Alan Shepard who adds, "Best Wishes".  Shepard is seen here wearing his Mercury space suit which is a very desirable format for his autograph.  It is in perfect condition.

This cover commemorates the tenth anniversary of Alan Shepard being the first Amercian in space.  It was cancelled in Houston on May 5th, 1971 and signed in bold black sharpie by Alan Shepard.

This USPS issued, "Acomplishments n Space" plate block has been neatly hand signed in black sharpie by Alan Shepard.  It is uncommon to fnid and in beatiful condition due to it's being properly stored over the years.

A difficult to find in this condition, vintage Mercury era NASA litho showing Alan Shepard in a business suit.  Boldly very neatly hand signed in black sharpie "To Doris and Bill Hunter"  Doris was a former Chief Archivist for the Alabama Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.   Measures 8.5"x11" and as you can see is in simply outstanding condition. 

Comes with a letter of authenticity from the family.of Doris Hunter.

This impressive set contains a photo of Alan Shepard taken at Cedar Rapids, Iowa on 10/14/78 at the time of a parade.  The Individual who obtained his autograph on the Project Mercury plate block was in attendance that day.  Both are in perfect condition with the signature being signed in black sharpie.  A very nice set of two pieces that compliment each other just perfectly.
