Project Mercury
Initiated in
1958, completed in 1963, Project Mercury was the United
States' first man-in-space program. The objectives
of the program, which made six manned flights from 1961
to 1963, were specific:
To orbit a
manned spacecraft around Earth;
To
investigate man's ability to function in space;
To Recover both man and
spacecraft safely.

The image taken as he was being hoisted
aboard his recovery helicopter is in
great detail and in beautiful condition.

cancelled in Houston on May 5th, 1971

Astronaut Alan Shepard with provenance
This impressive set contains
a photo of Alan Shepard taken at Cedar
Rapids, Iowa on 10/14/78 at the time of a
parade. The Individual who obtained
his autograph on the Project Mercury plate
block was in attendance that day. Both
are in perfect condition with the signature
being signed in black sharpie. A very
nice set of two pieces that compliment each
other just perfectly.
